Pattern Design for Office Seating
Designed for Momentum Textiles & Wallcovering
Background: Our design team was given the challenge of generating a large amount of output in a short period of time for the office seating product category. This was our highest grossing segment and the designs had to meet strict standards for motifs, layouts, balance, and patterning properties.
Each designer would have two weeks to create as many designs as possible. The team would then meet and review the ideas and narrow to the ones that best fit the goals for the category. The next step was to take feedback from the design review meeting and and iterate on our designs to make them ready for weaving. Once completed, selected designs were woven and colored by various team members to suit the color direction for the project.

My individual process would begin with looking through my imagery files for inspiration. Next I would sketch in pencil and marker. Layering and adding texture is what sets me apart as a pattern designer. Due to my experience designing for residential and hospitality environments, I tend to keep the texture in CAD artwork which lends it a softer and more inviting appearance and helps inspire great constructions. Once a design was selected and refined, designers specializing in office seating would weave construction and color trials and finalize the colors for the line.

Below are a few of my pattern concept sketches on the left and their CAD designs on the right.

Skills used in this project were collaboration, design sprints, repeat pattern design, sketching by hand and in CAD, using Photoshop and EAT Textile Design software, and incorporating feedback into design iterations.
